Procedure:  10 mL 1-neck flask, stirbar, cap

                  Dissolved 0.044 g of I in 0.5 mL of dry THF.  Stirred at rt.  Added 0.017 g of H5IO6.  After 40 min, the solvent was removed by rotary evaporation.  The product was isolated by flash chromatography on silica gel using 10:90 EtOAc-hexanes as eluant.  The product was a clear, pale yellow oil.

 

1H NMR (CDCl3, 300 MHz) d 9.66 (d, J = 1.9 Hz, CHO), 4.51 (dt, J = 5.4, 1.9 Hz, H3), 4.01 (dd, J = 5.4, 1.9 Hz, H2), 2.20 (dt, J = 6.9, 1.9 Hz, H6), 1.55-1.25 (m, CH2s), 0.91 (s, SiC(CH3)3), 0.89 (m, H11), 0.87 (s, SiC(CH3)3), 0.12 (s, SiCH3), 0.10 (s, Si(CH3)2), 0.09 (s, SiCH3).
